MIRA: Soapbox Poetry

Inspired by poetry, spoken word and Hip Hop greats like Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, The Last Poets, Talib Kweli and Lauryn Hill; MIRA writes from the truth of what he sees in his community. He is emotionally attached to each poem he writes and uses spoken word as a window into his heart to express his love for his people. He calls his works SOAPBOX Poetry because he envisions himself on the corner standing on a soapbox spitting his message to anyone who will listen like the great community activist of the sixties.

In the past few years, MIRA has performed at local elementary, middle schools and conducted spoken word workshops at Hall High School, Breakthrough Magnet School and Fox Middle School. He has been invited to perform at the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner in Hartford and Ansonia, The Hartford Undercurrent and La Paloma Sabanera’s 2nd Anniversary Parties, Hope Out Loud, Tru Books, New London Arts Festival, New London High School Black History Program and Songs for Africa.

Most recently, he has performed at The Organix Soul Concert Series @ the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Mt. Holyoke College in Massachussets,Lyrical Voices in Bridgeport, CT, UConn School of Social Work, American International College, The Caramel Cafe, Enfield and Osborne Prisons to perform for the inmates.

Mira is that soft spoken brother who writes and recites poetry with a passion that cannot be taught or learned in a classroom, the vibe he emanates can only be felt.

A New England Crowd favorite, we at Poetryjoint com believe that the world is going to be amazed when it opens it's doors and allows this brother to set up his soap box and just speak.

Eloquence aka Mrs. Spitfyah

The Poetic Words of Eloquence

I am an abstract painting, painted with the ink of time, with the color of my emotions. On the canvas of my environment the image to be seen by all. Subject to judgement The images' truth reaches its revelation Looking at the color of my emotions Ever so mixed and overlapping, deep is the notion Look deep! Judge what you see But strive for the truth to understand me The art of God's work forever I'll be...  Read her work Here we are sure you will definitely enjoy it.
