Darlene Brandon-Scott:
thick like peaches
Darlene Brandon-Scott has done for the Tri-State what Jill Scott has done for Philly. 'She's brought new life and added attention to the the category of "Erotic Poetry."
Brandon-Scott asserts "I am not an erotic poet, I am a creative writer that enjoys writing about the wonders of the human spirit and it's physical manifestations."  Her debut CD "Thick Like Peaches" is a compilation of 19 hottt tracks recorded live at historic Dunamis Cafe -  A former Poetryjoint.com Venue. Each and every track will leave you hanging on to your senses wondering why you've never heard of Brandon-Scott before. World, I'd Like You To Meet Ms. Brandon-Scott!

Jive Poetic:

The pain of a crowded solitude

A hot CD and absolute must have for the poetry fanatics spoken word CD collection.  Jive hits on so many issues in this verbal library of explosive lyrics.  My favorite track would be "Don't Think" not only is the piece hot but it features one of my favorite spoken word / verbal musicians D-Cross. So if your looking for a hot CD, something to sit back and relax to.

The recommendation of Poetryjoint.com has to be Jive Poetic: The pain of a crowded solitude.

Poetryjoint.com Compilation:
Crossroads Poetry Live

The Crossroads LIVE CD meshes the smooth sounds of jazz with the wide range of poetic stylings at Crossroads Poetry.  The first in a series of live recordings by PJ.c features D.Moss, Christian D. Lewis, Cor’al and many more extremely talented unknowns who have dared to immortalize their prose on plastic.

If one were to close their eyes while listening to this CD – one would find himself or herself nestled comfortably in a dark corner of some juke joint in the mid 20’s jamming to the sounds of a homemade band and having the time of their life.  Definitely a must add to the poetry/spoken word collection of anyone who enjoys the Spoken Word.

Tyren "grfx"
[the beautiful daye]

simple necessities [the beautiful daye]” was created to be the soundtrack, background, to those moments when the chill-out mood is needed or exists. An album meant to support the low lights, flowing red wine and mutual attraction. A CD designed to remind us love can be fleeting, hurtful or/and amazing. When the noise of the day has overwrought the mind and spirit, “the beautiful daye” is the remedy. In the bath, it is the perfect accompaniment to the bubbles and candles.

A departure from the everyday R&B and Neo-Soul – “simple necessities [the beautiful daye]” combines soulful vocals, thoughtful poetry and rare grooves. Independent and underground, the album is meant to provide you with that mood or groove not found on many songs.

Cool out music. The album is a tool…

Mahogany Big

Ladysmyth: Untitled
Mahogany L. Browne

Mahogany L. Browne, a lone voice on the poetry scene, has been seen on HBO, headlines the Hennessey poetry radio series, and is a featured member of the respected Punani Poets enclave.

Her stirring performances draw on the life and loves of a single mother finding her path in a complex world. Her poetry performances stun the senses and rip the heart. Her vocal inflections are popular with audiences in the USA and overseas. Spoken word at it’s best.  This compact disc is a must have for anyone looking for spoken word the way it was meant to be.

Heru

Volume 1:  Mystery School
Volume 2:  The Nephew of Nebthet

Poets like Heru are the reason many of us have not turned our backs on Spoken Word and continue to believe in an age old craft. He has the uncanny ability to entrance and enlighten listeners in a style equivalent to a favorite uncle or grandfather sharing information that has been passed down through the generations..

I couldn’t listen to just one of his CD’s I had to listen to both over and over and even felt compelled to take notes and open books long forgotten. His words inspire thoughts hard to articulate but easy to digest. His words and works are a definite must have.
